Amb. Baba Ahmad Jidda, OFR




Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda was born on 1st October, 1951 in Marte Local Government of Borno State of Nigeria. He went to school in 1957 and graduated in 1975 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. Prior to his graduation he attended and obtained Primary School Certificate, West African School Certificate, and Higher School Certificate.


Between 1980 – 1982, Ambassador Jidda attended Post-Graduate Advanced Diploma in Administration and Master’s Degree in Development Economics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. Immediately after graduation in 1975, Ambassador Jidda joined the Borno State Civil Service as Administrative Officer VII and rose from the post of Assistant-Secretary through to Senior Assistant-Secretary, Principal Assistant-Secretary, Under-Secretary, Ministerial Secretary to Permanent Secretary. By the year 1988 after variously serving as General Manager of Radio and Television and Chairman of Manguno Local Government, Ambassador Jidda was elected member of The Nigerian Constitutional Assembly in Abuja. On completion of his assignment in the Assembly, Ambassador Jidda transferred his service from Borno State to the Federal Civil Service of Nigeria.


Meanwhile, at the Federal Civil Service, Ambassador Jidda served variously as Director of Finance, Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals, Director of Finance in the Presidency, Director of the National Identity Card Project and Director of National Border Patrol amongst numerous other ad-hoc assignments.

In 1997, Ambassador Jidda was appointed Secretary to the State Government and Head of Civil Service of Borno State on secondment. Two years later, Ambassador Jidda voluntarily retired from both State and Federal Civil Service to join politics whence he contested as Governorship Candidate of People’s Democratic Party in 1999 in Borno State. After the elections, Ambassador Jidda was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Burkina-Faso in the year 2000. After serving as an Ambassador he was again appointed as Special Adviser to the President on National Emergency and worked in the State-House. By the year2005. Ambassador Jidda served as a member of the National Political Reform Conference and later appointed again as Secretary to The State Government of Borno State where he served for 10 years making him the longest serving Secretary to the State Government in Nigeria. Ambassador Jidda voluntarily resigned as Secretary to State Government in the year 2015. In 2017, Ambassador Jidda was again appointed as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the People’s Republic of China where he is currently the Head of Mission . A highly experienced administrator, a diplomat and a politician of repute, Ambassador Jidda is a member of Board of Trustees of the ruling party the APC in Nigeria. He is a contented family man who travelled wide in the globe and enjoys playing golf, reading books and engaging in political and diplomatic activities.
